PTO Events Calendar
The PTO should first research and decide what purchases to spend PTO funds on. Once it's known how much money is needed, you can then make a fundraising plan.
April and May, is the time to make a plan for September! It's the time to vote in new PTO Officers, assign Committee Chairs, and put together an Events Calendar for the upcoming school year that
includes Fundraisers,
Enrichment Programs, and Fun Events for the kids.
PLANNING A "PTO EVENTS CALENDAR"
As a PTO, it's important that you have a plan for the upcoming school year. We've tried to make this a bit easier for you by providing this SAMPLE PTO EVENTS CALENDAR...
To do this take it one step at a time:
- FUN EVENTS: Consider all of the fun events you'd like to organize for the kids. Then break these down into a monthly schedule, planning 1-2 per month. Work them around larger events, holidays, and themes. For instance, March is Read Across America Month, May is Teacher Appreciation, April 22nd is Earth Day, and we made January Health & Wellness Awareness month.
- ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS: Try to incorporate similarly-themed Enrichment Programs into the monthly themes. Since March focusses on reading, host an author or poet; In April, invite Earth Adventure to coincide with Earth Day; In January, host
WellnessQuest, a dentist, or a professional athlete.
- SCHOOL PURCHASE: There may be a school project you'd like to accomplish this year such as a Student Reading Garden or a Student Art Exhibit Area. Or there may be some products you'd like to help the school purchase because they will benefit the students (i.e. Smart Boards, computers, etc.). Include these in your list of expenses and set a goal as to when you'd like to purchase them.
- FUNDRAISERS: Once you know the types of events and programs you'd like to host, the school purchase you'd like to make, and the expenses attached to them, you can then determine how much money you'll need to raise and which programs can help you reach that goal (i.e. fundraisers, grants, corporate donations).
